The stories of automatons in ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Chinese mythology
Introduction
In ancient times, humanity dreamed of creating life, and they came close during the time period called the Renaissance. Many believe that Leonardo da Vinci was able to create an automaton that walked and talked — a mechanical man. The automaton was created out of metal parts, gears, and cogs but had human-like attributes such as eyes that moved back and forth when speaking (which were made from glass) and moving lips. It is unknown if Leonardo actually built this machine or not because no one has been able to find it since then; however, several other stories exist about similar creations in ancient Greece, Egypt, and China as well!
The story of Talos
In the ancient Greek myth of Talos, it is said that the island of Crete was protected by a giant bronze automaton called Talos. The story goes that when Jason and his Argonauts arrived on Crete, they were welcomed by King Minos who gave them permission to take anything they wanted from his kingdom except for one thing: the golden fleece at Colchis. So Jason set out on his journey across the sea with his sailors and their ship Argo (which some people say is actually named after its builder).
